If traveling to the Netherlands this year to see their tulip fields is not in your cards, consider coming to one of the largest U.S. tulip growers locations Skagit Valley WA. This local will be awash with color soon, marking the start of the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The 2010 festival, timed to coincide with the full bloom of the fields, will be held April 1st April 30th, 2010. The tulip fields are spread out over a 15-mile radius and Tulip Festival events are scattered around the entire county. When they are in bloom, it is a gorgeous site to behold. There are many festival sites to visit- see the Field Map for locations. The Skagit Valley is just 60 miles north of Seattle, WA or 60 miles south of Vancouver, BC Canada. There are several LL properties and packages in both of these major cities making this festival very doable for a day trip from either country. For more information on the festival, visit: http://www.tulipfestival.org PDF copy of the Tulip Festival Brochure: http://www.tulipfestival.org/brochure.php Besides self-guided tours, there are several Skagit Valley Tour Options (including Deception Pass): http://www.tulipfestival.org/travelandtours.php

Shygirl, I've been to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival several times. We used to live in Oak Harbor, Washington, and the festival was only a half hour drive from our house. The growers in the area actually earn most of their money selling the tulip bulbs, rather than the flowers. In fact, they even send some of their bulbs to The Netherlands for sale. This Festival is a great place to take photos if you're a camera buff since there are acres upon acres of vibrant colors to be seen.
Just a heads up. Local news has been reporting that the daffodils grown in this same area have been in full bloom since mid-March. Because of the unusually warm spring, the tulips are in bloom now, so if you are going, it is best to plan going by mid- April. Even though the festival will be in swing for all of April, the flowers will probably be done blooming by the 3rd week of the month.
