My husband and I are traveling to New Orleans in September for a long weekend. Any suggestions on where to stay/eat/look for antiques and learn about local history? (Quiet hotels preferred, please, we're not going for the nightlife!)

If you are looking for an affordable, quiet, nice place to stay, try The Whitney Wyndham. It's in the business district, but walking distance to the French Quarter and Jackson Square. You can find great rates for this hotel on theWyndham website. Another Wyndham hotel, Bourbon Orleans is directly behind Jackson Square. A great location, great website prices, but could be a bit noisy.
Acme Oyster is a must if you like oysters and Poboys. Cafe Du Monde for chicory coffee and beignets! Mothers for authentic cajun food and Central Grocery for Muffalettas. These are all modestly priced. There are many, more expensive, great places to eat. Look on Fodors.com.
Royal Street has all the great antique shops. Vive la France at 823 Royal Street is a great shopitems imported from France. The galleries are on this street as well. Dont miss the Blue Dog/Rodrigue Studios at 721 Royal Street.
Pat OBriens is a fun bar on Bourbon Street. If you dont likea crowd, go in the afternoon and sit on the patio...and be sure to order a Hurricane. The piano bar is fun there as well.
For jazz music try, Tipitina's or Preservation Hall.
If you are not looking for the nightlife, dont go to Bourbon Street at night J
