Leavenworth is a lovely small town, nestled in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington State. This town had fallen on hard times in the 40s and 50s. Residents of the town looked for ways to save their community and decided to highlight the natural beauty around them. In the early 60s, they settled on a Bavarian theme. Using only private money, they remade their town into the Bavarian Village it is today. Read and see more about Leavenworths history: http://www.alpenroseinn.com/Leavenworth_History.html

thanks for the info on Leavenworth.... I've never been there. I just returned from Lake Chelan (an hour away from Cle-elum and 3.5 hours from Seattle). Wow, talk about a crystal clear lake that is warm enough to swim in. There are some lovely homes on the lake for rent. No too many great hotels, but a few on the lake and they are definitely pricey during the summer... I'm talking $300.00 per night for a Best Western - Ouch!
But if you are in the mood to do a lake vacation, I'd definitely recommend Lake Chelan. Maybe LL will get hooked up with a hotel there. I'm sure a package would get picked up immediately.
