Nice post! I would forewarn all travelers to HK during the New Year that it is a 15 day family holiday where stores and restaurants close for 3 days. I would suggest that if someone were going to HK for the first time, start out before new years. The sales in HK are best right before new years as well. Also, make sure to make reservations as soon as possible, since this holiday is primarily about reacquaint with family and friends. This is particularly true if you are extending your vacation after the first 3 days of Chinese New Years into the next 12 days.
Very good advice you provided, especially for first-time visitors to Hong Kong, on the fabulous New Year's festivities taking place there in February. Personal insights like yours are one of the main reasons why the LL Community is such an informative and practical forum for sharing travel information and tips. Thanks.
