Bought at auction--res handled fine. The lodges were very nice--probably 5 star, however charged premium prices for incidentals such as a (1) beer on game drives and at dinner. Internet was an add on as well.
The game drives were definately not 5 star. This is 11,000 Ha in the reserve and a lot of time was spent driving looking for game. The roads are very rough --like a ride at Euro-Disney--they need to be improved. One driver in particular needs to be trained to in drive smoothly.
The comparison is to a safari we took in Botswanna and the Blue Train--both 5 star.
Im a little surprised to hear that you were disappointed with your stay at Mkuze Falls. We purchased two packages last winter for ourselves and another couple. Everyone in the group was experienced Safari goers (myself excluded) and raved about the professionalism of the staff as well as the animals we say (all of the big five as well as cheetahs and many others), there was no mention by anyone that it was talking a while to find animals.
They may have changed their policies but sundowners were included in our package, all other alcohol was extra which we expected. Im fairly sure that none of us even tried to access the internet there, we were far too busy being on vacation, Im not sure what you paid for your trip but for us it was about $2200 usd for the four of us Many North American Hotels would charge an internet access fee at those rates (183 per person/night inc meals and drives)
It looks like we had very different experiences there, having said that I would recommend it to anyone that I know
