What happens with your frequent flier miles when you die? Do your miles expire when you expire?
With no advance notice, last week Delta changed the policy affecting miles upon a member's death. The miles can no longer be inherited or transferred to a family member.
Delta amended the terms and conditions of SkyMiles to prohibit members from willing their miles to friends or family when they die. Previously, it was possible for the Executor of the deceased member's estate to provide Delta with a copy of the member's death certificate and an affidavit and release form in order to have Delta reinstate the miles and transfer them to one or more members' accounts.
