Hi Funtimes. I just couldn't imagine being in Tortola when the ships arrive. WOW....weird to hear about Lambert Beach. I would have been very annoyed if the cruise people buffet was going on while I stayed there! It isn't a big area. Did you know that Beef Island is supposedly also going to turn into a major resort? I think they will even be adding a golf course! This is what is happening to Anguilla. First one golf course, now a second one proposed (even though there is a building halt for a few years for foreigners.) In Anguilla, they are VERY upscale resorts (Viceroy and Tenemos-see my blog under Anguilla part 2). Hopefully if Tortola does grow, it is done with smaller scale properties. I wonder how theroad systemwill handle their growth.
Hi BonneyJoy You are right! WOW the roads there are so steep and narrow and in ill repair now I can't imagine Fortunately we were fine driving but did see LOTS of smashed up cars Take care ...Funtimes PS I better get to Anguilla soon!
Virgin Gorda is even worse!!Some of the roads are paved but some are still dirt!!! Imagine going up and down steep hills in the dirt/mud when it is raining! We visited Nail Bay in VG and asked the staff the shortest way to get back on "the main road". Well, we thought we understood the directions but didn't. The next thing you know, we were heading STRAIGHT UP a dirt road and then it STOPPED!!! My husband was concerned if we backed up we would flip (we were in a little jeep.) We had the cliff on one side and the ocean on the other. He manuevered the vehicle by turning around. Well, I guess that is what he did......I had my eyes closed the entire time and just lost it! I never felt so sick in my life.
We,ve felt that way driving many times in the islands - St Croix we went up ? Hurricane road - shown as a truck route or 4 wheel drive on the map BUT my husband said "its OK" and we drove it in a Ford Focus YIKES!!! I know what you mean about a cliff on one side this was so narrow no other car could have passed and part of the time foliage was so dense it was draped over our windsheild. When we made it to the resort on the other side ? Tamarind club ( I forget names) people in the bar could not believe we made it and bought us drinks. Needless to say we went a different way back to our place.
In Turks and Caicos we went to the beach by Amanyara ROI resort WOW the 4 wheel drive part was right - again we made it down that road and back up in a regular compact car - We are suckers for adventure I guess. Happy Travels ...Funtimes
