At least they're trying something. Does anybody have any idea why they schedule 57 takeoffs when only 44 are possible? Seems like if they scheduled 44( the only amount that can get off the ground anyway ), it might make things run a bit more smoothly.

The move to increase compensation from $200 to $624 for passengers involuntarily bumped from flights was the only concrete step announced, but Peters said she was moving on two fronts.

Sturgell also pressed for a bill stalled in Congress that would overhaul antiquated flight control systems to allow for more takeoffs and departures.

In the metropolitan area, "the real focus is JFK," where delays are nearly guaranteed, Sturgell said. Kennedy has the capacity for 44 takeoffs from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., but the airlines regularly schedule 57, Sturgell said."
