I just returned from a business trip to Birmingham, Alabama and stayed at the Redmont Hotel. Some notes on this hotel... It is the oldest hotel in downtown Birmingham and is small, simple, but nice. The best thing about it is that the staff is very, very nice and helpful. They drove me to my meetings and back free of charge (I think it has something to do with the fact that cabs are virtually non-existant.) The location of the hotel is not bad for the downtown area. The streets are very clean, easy to walk without being hasseled. Note: The downtown area closes up at night and on the weekends, so if you are planning a trip to Birmingham and want to do stuff during these hours, I would recommend either staying out by the University or getting a car. The area around the University is rather hip with lots of fun cafes, jazz clubs and restaurants.
