Did anyone see the Wall Street Journal article in section D today about being an Authentic Traveller? It was a great article and referenced a web site www.BestTripChoices.com. It provides a little interesting quiz to see what type of traveller you are. Its basic point was knowing what tyupe of vacation most likely fits your travel personality which in turn leads to a more satisfying vacation. Very interesting and check it out. Wonder if the LL community is one specific type!
I have my doubts about the 'scientifically validated' part of this questionnaire, but the results were interesting. Apparenlty I'm a mid-venturer -- in other words, I like to travel off the beaten path and explore independently but to do it in style and comfort. The description was a reasonably good description of my travelling habits though I'm more willing to rough it (occasionally) in the name of doing something unique than the description implies.
I'm going to send this to my friends and see what sort of travellers they are -- it might help me see who I should ask to join me on my next trip!
I am a mid-venturer also. It sounded true to me. My only concern was the destinations linked to your type personality. I felt most of the destinations were "too normal." For being a more independent and creative traveller, none of the places challenged me. I was hoping to see more off the beaten path ideas.
The quiz was interesting... and I ended up as an "authentic", which, after reading the description, really doesn't fit me at all. I definitely don't watch TV sitcoms or reality shows (Yuck), have several newspapers and a ton of magazines delivered all the time... and most importantly, the idea of owning a camper or trailer and driving to a vacation spot like Disneyworld would cause me to never travel again! My idea ofthe perfect vacation is blinking my eyes and magically appearing at my destination ie: avoiding the 16 hour flight to Asia to get to the beach in Bali!
I'm also a "mid venturer"...the descriptions sounds about right: I like off the beaten track/exotic places, and I like to be active, but I also like lux at the end of the day.
As a mid-venturer, your personality fits between venturers and those more in the center of the personality spectrum ("centrics"). You share a number of characteristics in common with pure venturers. You like to travel, especially to foreign destinations and you seek new experiences and new destinations for almost all trips you take. You are also physically active at home and on trips. But, unlike your pure venturer friends, you don't want to take such extreme vacations and are more likely to plan your trips-set an itinerary of places you want to visit and schedules when you will be there. You also have more company. About 17% of the population has a personality that matches yours, vs. only 4% for pure venturers.
Turns out I'm a "mid-venturer" also! I thought it was somewhat accurate, but really just fun to see the results. It seems there are a high percentage of "mid-venturers" in the LL community. Could there be some correlation between this personality type and the LL community members?
I wouldn't be surprised if many people here were mdi-venturers -- it seems like LL community members are pretty adventurous in terms of where they travel but like their luxury too.
I went back to the site today and agree with what some other people have said -- the destinations are pretty pedestrian. Nothing from Africa or Asia -- come on, there is more to the world than Europe and the Americas!
This is my point..Nothing exciting to challenge me!! I was hoping they would names of places in Central/South America that were "up and coming." NOTHING. I guess they are keeping those secrets to themselves and sending all of us to the mainstream locales.
