ALASKA AIRLINES BOOSTS MINIMUM MILEAGE FOR AWARDS
Alaska Airlines just announced that they will be increasing the number of miles needed in order to redeem a frequent flyer award. The current level was 20,000 miles and it will be increased to 25,000 effective November 1. They also announced some other changes that are detrimental to travelers, most of which involve their partner airlines. One change that will benefit us is that they will expand their intrastate program to other states. Currently, travelers could redeem 15,000 miles and fly between destinations in Alaska. With the new program, we will be able to use 15,000 miles to fly between destinations in any state where they have at least two destinations. I imagine that this will be useful primarily in California, since Alaska has only one airport in some states (New York, Illinois, New Jersey), and in other states, such as Oregon, it's not worth using 15,000 to fly between destinations.
