I think it would be unfair of me to mention specifics,but,with the recession,there is certainly more "special rates" than ever being offered by hotels all over the globe.Also if you live in the UK for example,buying anything in dollars just now is at least 25% more expensive than 5 months ago.
Just also a note that we should not forget,is that retail price shown is generally peak season rates.If you buy,but end up taking the trip "off season" you could find you have paid too much.I know this is mentioned on LL pages,but this is just another reminder
You are quite right about retail prices shown on LL packages are usually given for high season. However, the auction and best buy packages are almost always for low or shoulder season. You brought up some good points that should be part of everybody's "homework" before purchasing any vacation packages. At times you can get good or better rates from the hotels directly, but what value do you put on some of the extras like a free dinner for two, a massage for two, concert or museum tickets?
