Live Chat with Luxury Link's Italy Travel Expert Paolo Vinci
Luxury Link's resident Italy expert Paolo Vinci - a former resident of Rome and Milan - joined Luxury Link travelers for a live Facebook Q&A.
Q: I'm interested in going to Florence, Pisa and Rome/Vatican City. Can you please recommend some tour companies for a solo traveler who's interested in the arts, architecture, museums and culture (maybe some cars too)? Thanks!
Paolo: Great question - I would recommend American Express travel and tours - they can help customize a tour in addition there is a company called One Step Closer that organizes some amazing tours - when are you leaving?
Q: Thinking of going to Italy; my fiancé's family is from there. We want to do Rome, and Southern Italy, Capri, Positano etc... We have 10 days. How do you recommend we accomplish this?
Paolo: Are you planning on renting a car? I would recommend renting a car starting in Rome and driving south the Naples - visit the Mt. Vesuvius. From there I would say continue south to the Amalfi coast - When you are in the Amalfi coast in Positano I would recommend the Hotel Poseidon - close to the water. I would spend about a few days in Positano, a few days in Capri and a few days in Rome - and that would be a nice length of time to see a lot country. When are you leaving?
Q: September 23 or 24th. For our honeymoon. Like 2 days per city or 3 days. Any particular cities are a must see or any journals o books you can recommend???
Paolo: I would recommend at least 3 days in the major cities - a must see city in my opinion would be Rome, Venice, and Florence are a must! Venice is so unique. I love the Michelin Guides! Yes but to drive the Amalfi coast is an amazing experience I would recommend highly!!!
Q: My family is considering renting a Villa for 2 weeks in Italy. Can you recommend a great 'home base' region? Planning on day side trips...
Paolo: A great place for villas is Tuscany - where you can do day trips to wineries - balloon rides - medieval towns and more!
Q: Where can I run into celebrities?
Paolo: Sardinia is a wonderful place for people watching where some of the world's most elite spend their holiday!
Q: What is a must see in Torino?
A: The shroud of Turin is an amazing experience - in addition you can tour a lot of history in the city dating back to the Roman Empire.
Q: Thank you so much for your reply. If you have any other advice regarding estaurants and shopping there, we are going in June. We are spending most of our time in Sicily (which I know), but a few days in Turin, which I don't know.
A: The cuisine in the Piedmont region is excellent! Again the Michelin Guide is a great tool for the road!
Q: Any recommendations on places/villages to stay (relaxing) along the coastline east or West of Venice (driving in 1-2 hours max) from Venice?
A: Albergo Al Sole
is a hotel which is the Follina region is Asolo Italy is a wonderful town where you can relax in the charming city - this is about 40km from Venice. They have wine tours that are very fun!
Q: I've been looking at Albergo al Sole on Luxury Link and just lost out on an auction for the property. Can you tell me more about the area around Asolo. Are there other Luxury Link properties nearby (within two or three hours)?
A: Great question! We anticipate Albergo al Sole may have another promotional package online shortly for you to possibly take advantage of, otherwise near Albergo al Sole is another Relais & Chateaux property which is the Hotel Villa Abbazia!
Q: Do you have any recommendations on a not too big hotel in Venice that has that little extra to it?
A: A nice hotel that I would recommend is Capisani.
Q: Thanks for the Tuscany recommendation ~ we're sort of flexible, and try to avoid summer rush...would you recommend Sept./Oct. as a good time in Tuscany for traveling?
A: Both months are perfect for Tuscany weather is nice - and it is often less crowded.
Q: What's the weather like in May? I'd like to avoid the summer rush so I'm thinking about May or September.
A: May can be pleasant. I also recommend October.
Q: Don't have a question... but Luxury Link rocks! (That’s all I had to say) lol
A: Thanks so much! We love our travelers and love to hear from you!
