Each week, Luxury Link will showcase an exclusive interview with one of our valued hotel partners. This week, please enjoy our conversation with Stephan Hauser Ferreira, Rooms Division Manager of Hotel das Cataratas, the only resort located within Brazil's IguaçuNational Park...
Q) What makes Hotel das Cataratas a unique experience for guests?
A) It’s amazing location! It is the only hotel inside the Brazilian National Park; just a few footsteps away from Iguaçu Falls. After and before opening hours, the Park is open only to the hotel guests. Walking down the trail in the early morning silence is really a life experience that can’t be missed.
Q) Are there any “must-try” dishes or drinks at the resort that guests should order?
A) To have a “Cachaça” (sugar-cane rum) at the Tarobá Bar, with Nacir, our head bar keeper, is a complete delight. He will assemble a variety of cachaças from different parts of the country, each made and aged in a different fashion. This for sure is a great highlight.
Q) What are some things about your property that guests may not know?
A) 1 - That the hotel offers a new and complete spa with six treatment rooms, steam baths and couples treatment rooms.
2 - That the best place to enjoy the sunset is the terrace of our bar. The sun sets just over the falls making it quite dramatic and the ideal opportunity for GREAT pictures and romantic moments.
3 - We offer a guided walking tour daily at 8:15am, down to Iguacu Falls with our in-house eco-guide. This is a great chance to get more information about the falls, park, wildlife and experience the Falls without the crowds. (Park gates open to the public at 9:00am)
4 - Hotel das Cataratas sponsors the “Carnivorous Project”. This project is done by the Park authorities and aims to track all the big cats in the Park (jaguars and pumas).
Q) Can you take me through what a guests stay would be like and what an average day might entail in terms of activities, etc?
A) Our main aim is to make our guests feel like they are experiencing something unique and to create memories which will last a life time. From the moment they are flying over The Iguaçu River and the National park, to the moment when they are picked up at the airport by one of our drivers and escorted to the hotel in a private car; the mood is set for them, to be discover one of Brazil’s most beautiful sites.
After checking in and being escorted to their room by one of our Receptionists all our guest have to do, is to choose how they want to spend their time. Relaxing by the pool after a Spa treatment; having refreshing “Caipirinhas” at the Veranda o Tarobá bar; enjoying live music whilst admiring the sunset over the falls; having a traditional “Gaúcho” style barbecue for dinner at Ipê Restaurant or experiencing some exquisite Brazilian dishes at Itaipu Restaurant.
Of course, our Concierge Desk / Tour operator, Iguassu Experiences is always ready to plan your day around the falls and organize all the excursions and activities our guests are up to.
Then get ready to fall asleep to the sound of the Falls, which can be heard from the rooms, but not to worry, all of the rooms have of course, mosquito nets.
Q) What elements about your property are truly luxurious?
A) The opportunity to be inside a National Park, where experiencing all the wildlife Brazil’s countryside has to offer is just outside your window.
Q) What advice do you have for guests who are staying at your resort?
A) Not to miss the Macuco Safari by boat; a speed-boat bringing you quite close to the falls by traveling up the Paraná River. This is a chance to savor more memories so be sure to pack your camera and maybe an extra memory card!
Q) What is the best time to travel to Hotel das Cataratas?
A) Between March and June the weather is about perfect.
