The PERFECT Holiday
My GF and I were lucky enough to spend four nights in Phinda Mountain Lodge followed by four nights in Phinda Forest Lodge (we won 2 four night auctions and combined them) in May this year.
We flew overnight from Heathrow with BA to Johannesburg where we stayed at The DOreale Grande for a night. The hotel was running an American Express Card Holders promotion so we were picked up on arrival by a limo and taken to the hotel (only a 5 min ride).
We recently took a vacation--the kind where you just buy the pkg, get flights and go. No-brainer thing; and all-inclusive dream.
Hacienda Tres Rios offers some very dreamy beds, slick accommodations (lots of marble/tile, oceanview balcony/jacuzzi, internet, room service...)
The pools are lovely and inviting until you realize to get to the restaurant or banos, you have to wind around other pools, over a bridge or two...)
Our stay was in the midst of the swine-flu "nondemic"
I thought it was about time I shared more of my trip to Zanzibar in February.
I was there for two weeks with my girlfriend staying in three completely different areas/hotels. I have already blogged on one of them here:
But now for my experience of the LL property we used :Zanzibar Kempinski which we stayed in for five nights.
The Filadelfia Coffee Resort and Spa http://www.rdaltoncoffee.com/5_1_hotel.htmlwas the best choice we could have made for our recent brief stops in Antigua, Guatemala.
We wanted some flexibility as we intended spending most of our holiday out at Lake Atitlan at Casa Palopo. Thanks to Jim Sanchez at LL, we were able to split the three night package, thereby allowing us a respite of one night in and two nights out on the drive to and from Santa Catarina Palopo.
So here I am, doing some last minute packing, thinking about how much easier air travel used to be. I remember just being able to pack a bag and not having to worry about what was in it. Less than 3.4 ounces of liquid? No sharp objects? Small enough to fit into the overhead rack? Will my checked baggage weigh too much?
I took my first trip overseas when I was seventeen. I had taken a year off after graduating from high school. One day, I received a letter from a friend
