In Search of Gourmet Food in Bavaria
In search of fine dining and gourmet food, we recently stayed t the Seehotel Überfahrt TEGERNSEE WELLNESS HOTEL, Hotel Tegernsee, Rottach-Egern in Rottach-Egern at the Tegernsee in Bavaria/Germany
With an alpine backdrop that could easily launch a thousand postcards, Lake Tegernsee in Upper Bavaria is a stunning year-round destination for hikers, bikers, skiers and beer worshippers. Catering to well-traveled, wellness-oriented guests, Seehotel Überfahrt is more than just its stunning lakefront location, and to top it all, it is just an hour from where we live.
There’s not a shred of Bavarian kitsch to be found. Instead there’s a surprisingly vibrant streak running through the mod-luxe proceedings, beginning with the colors — guest-room decor ranges from blue-and-white checkered chairs to deep orange linen to dark red curtains. Private balconies offer panoramic lake or mountain views, so everybody wins.
Germans have always infused their getaways with a healthy proportion of self-improvement, and in that area the Rottach-Egern Wellness Center doesn’t disappoint — the complex features multiple pools, a private beach, gym, and an international array of saunas, from Finnish to Japanese. For serious workout buffs, nutritionists and personal trainers abound.
The hotel’s spirit of variety and inclusiveness extends to the restaurants. There are three, plus a lobby bar that serves light tea snacks in the afternoon — for a bit of fine dining there’s the Michelin-starred Gourmetrestaurant Überfahrt, while those seeking some old-fashioned Bavarian comfort food choose Bayernstube.
We ate in two of the restaurants, the Gourmet Ueberfahrt, precided over by Mr. Christian Juergens with its 2 Michelin stars and the Italian restaurant "Il Barcaiolo" (15 points Gault Millau). The Il Barcaiola was very good, but the 2-star Michelin restaurant is really what we came for. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/sred...-gE&feat=email The food was excuisite and very inventive with service to match. Chef Christian Jürgens had been chosen to receive the "Restaurant of the year 2010"Award by the German food magazin "Der Feinschmecker".
The Ueberfahrt Hotel is part of the Leading Hotel of the World Hotels and part of the Althoff Group. Luxury Link has featured some of the Althoff Hotels before. We stayed previously with an LL package at the Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg Hotel. Also Villa Belrose in Gassin/St. Tropez in France and St. James Hotel and Club in London were offered in the past by LL.
We would love to see LL bring back some of the Althoff Hotels. Althoff Hotel & Gourmet Collection - Luxushotels in Deutschland, Frankreich und England and First Class Hotels: Althoff Hotel Collection. LL please try to bring back some of the Althoff Hotels.
