Our first visit to the property dates backs to when was originally operated as the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel Hollywood Beach Resort. Over the years, it was sold once or twice, eventually undergoing a major renovation and re-branded as the Marriott Hollywood Beach Hotel.
The first few years after the renovation and re-opening, management was first rate and the service was top notch. Even though the rooms were still somewhat cramped
Back in September 2004, we drove through Vero Beach, Florida and observed the carnage two back to back hurricanes had delivered. We wondered how long it would take for the community to recover and rebuild the numerous destroyed hotels and business structures in this very special place.
Amazing what a $50 million dollar infusion, plus the vision and inspiration of a power couple like Gloria and Emilio Estefan, can do for a small devastated hotel on a lovely stretch of Florida beach.
Recent travels have involved more time in South America. As wines frequently are found on our dinner table we have developed new interests in those produced in Chile and Argentina.
Early this year, we decided to return to Argentina and wanted to allocate some time to wine explorations in the region. It was only a matter of time until Mendoza, Argentina worked it's way to the top of our travel list.

Just back from a lovely trip to Argentina. Enjoyed the first four nights in Chacras de Coria, a suburb of Mendoza. We stayed at a small lodge called Lares de Coria. (10 rooms.) We spent two of the days touring the vineyards by bike. First day was easy and we stayed more in the Chacras area visiting Clos de Chacras, Patti Carmelo (lovely place and gentleman), and the lovely Altavista. The second day we arranged a private driver to tour the Uco Valley Area. . My favorite was Andeluna. We
