Nope, nothing like my last trip to this Central American paradise when we staying at Pico Bonito, courtesy of the minimum bid auction we scored at Luxury Link.
This time it was a lot more basic, a little less expensive and a humbling authentic journey.
The stimulus was
A couple of years ago we had been to south Lake Tahoe, staying at the base of the Heavenly ski area. We enjoyed Lake Tahoe very much, and said next time we would like stay on the north side. The Resort at Squaw Creek turned out to be the perfect location. I would recommend this resort and the Lake Tahoe area in general to any of you who enjoy outdoor activities. The scenery is magnificent, with the mountains and the lake offering all sorts of things to do, such as golf and hiking in the other seasons.

The operatives word are FUNKY and SURREAL!! A lost world resortslightly decayed, amusingly rustic luxury with a twist. Trade your tanga for a poncho. Plan on getting wet, dirty, sweaty and educated. Bring plastic for the sudden and torrential downpours and pack all your grubby casuals and light boots. And take plenty of 30+ SPF lotion. Insects are not prevalent on the river, but climbing 50 ft to your Tarzan house in the jungle has chompable momentsbugs also
Dreaming in dappled shade on the shores of the Zambezi, The River Club is located upstream of the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls, about 30 minutes from the Falls and 45 minutes from the airport. On our way to Patagonia (Chile and Argentina), we decided to break the flight and to spend a day and night in Santiago before heading further south and another three nights in Santiago before flying back to Miami.
For years, we avoided Chile**, but decided it was time to go.
Using Marriott Reward points, we reserved a room at the Santiago Marriott (points are more fun to spend than money). On-line booking was a snap and our one bedroom corner suite (thanks to Platinum upgraded accommodations)
