OK...I am not officially home. Flight delays waiting for Air Canada at Athens airport. Using the Swissport lounge. Wonderful time in Athens. Took the metro direct from airport to Athens Gate hotel in the Acropolis area of Athens. So easy to manage. The hotel is one of the top Trip Advisor hotels. Very small property with amazing views of the Acropolis. We did a whirlwind 24 hour trip by the best tour director-me! Next day flight on Olympic Air to Naxos. Well, Olympic decided that most of their flights had "technical problems." Guess that is the new phrase! Everyone was delayed and it got pretty nasty at all the counters. Then, after 3 hours, our plane departed. (seemed like each Olympic plane had these problems for between 2-4 hours. Seemed like a work slowdown to me!) Arrived in Naxos and our car was there waiting even though we were delayed. We stayed at the Finikas Hotel in the southern part of the island. This is where I "cobbled" two packages together. Finikas is located in a very quiet section of the island. We LOVED the location. It was on the beach with sheep and goats grazing next door. It had a large swimming pool. We had a 2nd floor superior suite. Bathroom was small. Bedroom area and lounge area. Beautiful terrace viewing the pool and sea. Very quiet location and very wonderful staff. Dimitrios, the manager, couldn't help us enough. He laid out trip ideas. Nicholas and Eleni in the restaurant area were superb. Each day we did a little tour of the island and then went to a different beach. The Greek food was amazing. Naxos is also much less expensive then some of the other islands. We took the ferry from Naxos to Santorini with no problems. We stayed at Voreina Gallery Suites. I did purchase through Jetsetter but I recently saw it on LL's Vacationist. Lefteris, the owner was a dream! Even before we left, he answered all my questions and arranged transfers, car rental, and trip ideas. Voreina is located in Pyrgos. Not directly on the caldera but amazing views. We had a superior suite and what a suite! HUGE bathroom and shower with windows opening to the caldera, Fira, and Oia! The bed was positioned to view the same view from bed! Living room with fireplace and kitchen. I just wanted to stay in and cook and use the nice facilities!!!! THat is not all......a plunge pool with loungers and views of the caldera. WOW. What a treat! We felt like royalty. On Santorini, we visited FIra and Kamari. We also took a schooner trip in the afternoon to watch sunset from the water. A sax player added the music as the sun was setting. So, we continue to love Greece and look forward to going back again!!!!
